The new 13-inch MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar went on sale yesterday , and it has already been torn apart by the folks over at OWC. The teardown, which is still a work in progress, reveals that the SSD on the base 13-inch MacBook Pro is removable.



While the SSD in the previous MacBook Pro is also replaceable, it is soldered to the motherboard which means that the replacement was not possible. In the new 13-inch MacBook Pro, however, the SSD is not only removable, but it has not stuck to the logic board. The OWC team also notes that while lifting open the bottom of the laptop was more difficult than previous generations it was not stuck which made things easier. Interestingly, the team also noted that the new 13-inch MacBook Pro automatically turns off when the cover is open, regardless of whether the power button is pressed or not.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with a super-fast SSD that is capable of speeds up to 3.1 GB / s. Therefore if you have decided to replace the SSD in the new MacBook Pro with a larger capacity, be sure to use one that offers similar to what Apple has used the speed.
